Beverly Holder's background includes a music major in high school and a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in advertising and a minor in graphic art from Baruch College. During an elective class in black and white photography, she learned how to shoot, develop film, and print her own pictures.
After college, she worked for a magazine in St. Thomas, USVI before moving to New York and working in the print production department of an investment management company. She then formed her own graphic design company in Los Angeles before stumbling upon a classified ad for a freelance photographer. She submitted some photographs she had taken of a car accident and was hired to photograph stories for Jamaica, Queens. This is where she first earned money as a professional photographer.
Following her freelancing work, she secured a job as a staff photographer with the City of New York, which she held for 12 years. She then started her own architectural photography business, which she continues to run and grow today, serving clients such as contractors, developers, and real estate professionals.
